Dr. Rustam DeVitre's expertise in dentistry spans many subjects, giving him the unique ability to masterfully treat the most complex oral rehabilitation cases. He is a prosthodontist who is known for his capacity to manage temporomandibular joint disease as well as for his passion for implant dentistry. His background is centered around aesthetics, as he has a meticulous eye for detail and understands what is cosmetically appealing.
Dr. DeVitre has conducted research in cementation, dental ceramics, and computer-aided design in dentistry. His work has been published in the Journal of Prosthodontic Dentistry. Currently, he has a patent pending on an implant drill and has traveled internationally on faculty with the International Academy of Dental Implantology to China, Korea, and Mexico.

What does a prosthodontist do?
- A prosthodontist specializes in restoring and replacing teeth. Dr. DeVitre completed the postgraduate program in prosthodontics at Tufts and handles crowns, bridges, dentures, implant restorations, and complex oral rehabilitation.
Why see a prosthodontist for a complex case?
- When many teeth are worn, broken, or missing, each restoration affects the others. Dr. DeVitre plans the bite, the jaw joints, and the appearance of the teeth as one case rather than treating them one at a time.
Does Dr. DeVitre treat jaw joint problems?
- Yes. He is known for his work in temporomandibular joint disease and taught in the Department of Restorative Dentistry at Tufts. He is a past president of the Northeast Craniomandibular Society.
Who places the implant and who restores it?
- Dr. Le places implants surgically and Dr. DeVitre designs and fits the crown, bridge, or denture that attaches to them. Both work in this office, so the surgical and restorative halves of your case are planned together.
How long does a full reconstruction take?
- It varies with how much work is needed and how your tissues heal between stages. Dr. DeVitre maps out the sequence and the timeline at your consultation so you know what to expect before anything begins.
Will the result look natural?
- Aesthetics are central to his training. Dr. DeVitre has conducted research in dental ceramics and computer-aided design in dentistry, and he plans the shape, shade, and proportion of the teeth with your face in mind.
